Brabus is no stranger to the GLS, having revealed the Brabus 800 in 2021. However, we all know that the German tuner has even more under its belt. Thus, this year they step up the game with the new GLS-based Brabus 900. The luxury SUV gets the full Brabus treatment including a carbon-fiber body kit, a bespoke interior, and more importantly a tuned twin-turbo 4.5-liter V8 engine with 888 hp (662 kW / 900 PS).
The model is based on the flagship Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 which in stock form is the largest, most powerful, luxurious, and expensive SUV in the Mercedes range. Starting with the exterior, Brabus added carbon fiber bits on the front bumper intakes, fender extensions, and rear diffuser, combined with a Brabus grille, larger tailpipes, and dark Shadow Chrome finish for all the brightwork.

The 24-inch Brabus Monoblock M “Platinum Edition” forged alloy wheels are larger than life, shod in XL Continental SportContact tires. The SUV can be lowered by a further 25 mm (1 inch) thanks to the tweaked Brabus Airmatic suspension. All those upgrades are identical to the Brabus 800 from last year, but what is different in the Brabus 900 is the engine tune.
AMG’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 has been transformed into a 4.5-liter engine thanks to a new set of turbochargers, enlarged pistons, increased bore and stroke, modified intake system, a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system, and new software. Thus, it now produces an impressive 888 hp (662 kW / 900 PS) and 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft) of torque, although the latter is limited to 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft). Power is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic and Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

All this power is enough to propel the heavyweight SUV from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds quicker than the stock Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. For the sake of tires, the top speed is electronically limited to 320 km/h (199 mph) which is still amazingly fast for a vehicle of this shape and size.
Inside, the Brabus Bi-Color Masterpiece treatment – black and beige in this example – includes a new kind of fine leather upholstery, seashell diamond stitching, loads of carbon fiber, and Brabus plates on the seatbacks. Still, it looks a lot more restrained than the Leonis Orange leather trim of the lesser Brabus 800 we covered a while ago.
Pricing for the GLS-based Brabus 900 is available upon request from the official website. Owners of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 can select individual upgrade options, and personalize the vehicle based on their preferences.
