While we are patiently waiting for the new generation of the GT to arrive, AMG teased a different kind of sportscar created in collaboration with popular artist and entrepreneur Will.I.Am. The teaser shows a G-Class face combined with a two-door coupe silhouette in a pretty unconventional manner. The model is set to debut on May 5 as a one-off special designed to raise money for school engineering programs.

AMG and Will.I.Am shared a few teasers on Instagram, revealing parts of the vehicle. The ultimate highlight is the front end, which is inspired by the G-Class with round LED headlights, a boxy nose and AMG-style bumper intakes. Sticking the face of a rugged SUV on a low-slung sportcar is something we would only imagine seeing in a rendering, but the Will.I.AMG, as it is called, actually exists in real life as a full-size model.

The profile is a different story, with the roofline looking similar to the current AMG GT, and the rear end “borrowed” from the AMG GT 4-Door including the boot and the LED taillights. When we increased the brightness in the official teaser, the proportions appeared a bit messed up with long overhangs and a short wheelbase. However, the video teaser does more justice to the unique creation revealing a pair of suicide doors, angular surfacing and SLR-style vents on the front fenders.

According to the official website of Will.I.Am, he “created a car for Mercedes-AMG that will help fund inner-city school engineering programs to prepare our youth for a technological tomorrow”. Hopefully, we will learn more about the underpinnings of this bespoke build in a couple of days as we are curious on what kind of engine lies under the bonnet.

Will.I.Am is no stranger to custom vehicles, but it is still a surprise that his partnership with AMG resulted in a sportscar bearing the official Mercedes-AMG branding. In any case, we guess that the Will.I.AMG will strictly remain a one-off, similar to the Project Maybach x Virgil Abloh Concept from last year.
