Gorden Wagener, Mercedes’ chief design officer, took to Instagram today to share a teaser for a mysterious new concept vehicle called the Vision AMG.

“The Desire for Performance Luxury,” Wagener wrote. “Get ready for our all-electric performance show car – the Vision AMG.” No further details, though, were revealed about the car beyond the drawings of its outline.

That drawing is highly reminiscent of another recent show car, the Mercedes EQXX. Revealed on January 3, the highly aerodynamic car features a streamlined design with a short hood and a long sloping roof just like the one shared today. The new concept, though, does look more aggressive than the EQXX.

Its design gives it a drag coefficient of 0.17, which allows the EQXX to have a range of 1,000 km (621 miles). As a concept vehicle primarily focused on range, though, it isn’t particularly powerful.

Mercedes said that, despite a 100 kWh battery, the EQXX show car was powered by a single, rear-mounted electric motor that makes 201 hp (150 kW/204 PS). Although objectively sufficient for a modern car, those are hardly the power levels that AMG is associated with.

In September of last year, the automaker revealed the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. That EV is powered by two motors that make up to 751 hp (560 kW/761 PS) and 752 lb-ft (1020 Nm) of torque when the Race Start mode is selected, which allows the 5,853 lbs (2655 kg) vehicle to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds.

That power comes with compromises on range, though. Despite having a 107.8 kWh battery with AMG-specific wiring, the EQS 53 4MATIC can only go between 526-580 km (327-360 miles) per charge on the WLTP test cycle. Like the EQXX, though, the Vision AMG may help Mercedes squeeze more out of its cars.

In March, the automaker said that the EQXX was a “research vehicle” intended to “explore options for future production vehicles. A blueprint for series production.” The company added that many of the innovations from that vehicle would soon find their way into production vehicles and the same might be the case for this upcoming concept.

What Mercedes has planned for the Vision AMG will be revealed on May 19.
