Hertz Will Rent A 900 HP Mustang Shelby GT500-H For $399 A Day

Hertz is tapping into its history and will once again offer Mustangs that were specially tuned by the experts at Shelby American to its customers in 11 cities around the U.S.

The partnership between Hertz and Shelby American will last three years and pays tribute to the famed “Rent-a-Racer” program that offered customers a Ford Mustang GT350H in 1966. One of the most potent race cars of its time, the cars that participated in the program are still collectible today.

In all, Hertz will have 25 Shelby GT500-H fastbacks to rent. The 5.2-liter supercharged engine, though, has its power bumped up from the already bananas 760 hp (567 kW/770 PS) of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 all the way up to 900 hp (671 kW/912 PS). It also gets forged aluminum monoblock wheels, performance spec tires, tinted windows, Shelby GT500-H badges, side stripes, and a carbon fiber hood that cuts 30 lbs (14 kg) off the weight of the car.

Of the 25 Mustang Shelby GT500-Hs offered, 19 will be painted shadow black with gold stripes, while the six, in honor of Shelby American‘s 60th anniversary, will be painted Oxford White with gold stripes. The superchargers on these models will be painted gold.

In addition, Hertz will also rent out a collection of Shelby GT-H convertibles and fastbacks powered by a 5.0-liter V8 making 451 hp (336 kW/456 PS). These will be available in Rapid Red Metallic, Oxford White, Carbonized Grey, and Shadow Black.

They will also benefit from a Borla performance exhaust system and staggered 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Michelin tires. Topping the look off are a Shebly-designed deep-draw hood, upper grille, fascia winglets, and taillight panel.

All of the above-mentioned Mustangs will feature gold “Le Mans” dual racing stripes, as well Hertz Edition and Shelby 60th anniversary emblems. They will also all be finished at Shelby’s assembly facility in Las Vegas and will be documented in the official Shelby American Registry.

The Mustang Shelby GT500-H will be available in Miami, Orlando, Fort Myers, and Tampa Bay, Florida, as well as in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona. The Mustang Shelby GT-H convertibles and fastbacks will be available in Atlanta, Georgia; Dallas, Texas; Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Tampa Bay, Miami, and Orlando, Florida; Las Vegas, Nevada; Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, California; and Phoenix, Arizona.

If you want to rent one of these very special Mustangs, the average daily rental rate for the Shelby GT-H is $99 per day and the Shelby GT500-H is $399 per day starting in June.
