Nissan announced Australian pricing for the Nissan Z which will reach dealerships Down Under in mid-2022 with a starting price of AU$73,300 (equal to about US$51,200 at current exchange rates). Besides the standard model, there will also be a limited-edition Z Proto Spec with extra features that will only be available during the launch phase priced at AU$80,700 ($56,217 USD).

The question in everyone’s mind is, of course, how pricing compares to the Toyota GR Supra and the answer if pretty favorable. In Australia, the base Nissan Z that can be had with either a manual or an auto undercuts its Toyota rival by a significant AU$14,003 (about $9,700) as the latter starts from AU$87,303 (US$61,350).

Still, pricing in Australia is higher than in Japan, where the also right-hand-drive Nissan Z starts from ¥5,241,500 ($40,327). Similarly, in the US market, the sportscar is expected to start from around $40k when it arrives later this year.

The Nissan Z will come standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, leather accents throughout the cabin, launch control, and three driving modes (Standard, Enhanced, Sport). Furthermore, the sports car will feature the full Nissan Intelligent Mobility ADAS suite.

The more expensive Nissan Z Proto Spec will be exclusively available in Ikazuchi Yellow exterior shade with a Super Black roof, bronze 19-inch forged alloy wheels, and yellow brake calipers. Nissan said it has already received several hundred reservations for the Z Proto Spec, which will be “strictly limited” unlike the standard model which will arrive in greater numbers.

The twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 produces 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS) and 475 Nm (350 lb-ft) of torque, figures identical to the US-spec model. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission with an Exedy clutch, downshift rev-matching function and a carbon-fiber composite driveshaft. There is also an optional nine-speed automatic with aluminum paddle shifters, launch control, and two drive modes (Standard and Sport).

Powering all Nissan Zs is the a 3.0-litre ‘VR30DDTT’ twin-turbocharged V6 borrowed from Infiiniti rated for 298kW (400hp) of power and 475Nm (350 lb-ft) of torque. According to Nissan, the new Z has 31 per cent more torque than its predecessor, a 13 per cent improvement in the power to weight ratio and a 15 per cent faster acceleration.
