BMW M is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and whilst we are all waiting for the debut of the hardcore M4 CSL at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, it seems that the Bavarian company has another ace up its sleeve. A new report states that BMW will soon launch an hommage in the form of a limited-production special based on the M4 CSL with a redesigned body and an eye-watering price tag.
According to automotive journalist Georg Kacher’s piece for the Australian WhichCar, the yet-unnamed model could borrow styling cues from the 2015 BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept, as a modern reinterpretation of the original E9 CSL “Batmobile” from the ‘70s. Despite sharing the underpinnings and the overall proportions with the M4 CSL, the exterior design of the limited-production special could have little in common, thanks to new carbon-fiber body panels and more expressive aero components.

In terms of powertrain, the M4’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine will be tuned even further than in the M4 CSL, producing as much as 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) of power and 700 Nm (516.3 lb-ft) of torque. Staying true to BMW M’s heritage, power will be transmitted to the rear wheels, most likely through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The two-door coupe will also reportedly employ weight-saving measures and a more track-focused chassis setup. Speaking of performance, 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is expected to be complete in around 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of more than 300 km/h (186 mph). As for the overall weight, a figure close to 1,550 kg (3,417 pounds) should be achieved.
The special BMW M is expected to be produced in 50 units, with a price close to €600,000 ($633,672). This is more than triple the price of the regular M4 CSL that will reportedly cost €180,000 ($190,134), however, the premium can be justified by the bespoke body and the rarity which will likely cause the model to appreciate over time.
