Maserati last week suggested that it would be revealing an open-top vehicle on May 25 and today it has officially confirmed that it will be the convertible version of the MC20 supercar, which it will be called the “Cielo.”
Maserati says that the full name must all be considered together. MC20 Cielo stands for Maserati Corse (“Racing”), while the 20 stands for 2020, the year that its new era began. “Cielo,” meanwhile, “highlights the fact that it is a model devoted to driving pleasure in the great outdoors while maintaining all the prerogatives of a true super sports car,” the company writes.
Further details remain unknown, but Maserati has already shown the car under camouflage. Appropriately enough, the camouflage was sky blue and covered in white clouds, so the automaker has been hinting at the name for a while now.

Those photos and others revealed all of the modifications to the body one might expect from a convertible, including a new roof structure, missing side rear windows, and an updated rear deck.
Just like the coupe, the body of the MC20 Cielo will be made of carbon fiber, which should help keep it light, and we expect it to be powered by the same drivetrain. The MC20’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS) and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque, enough to get it off the line and up to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds and onto a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).
An electric variant is expected to follow. Details on that remain limited but the company has promised that it will “absolutely be more powerful” than the ICE model, so expect big things.
