BMW has rolled out an over-the-air software update for the iX and while it’s not a game-changer, it does hint at the frequency of updates that will be launched for the SUV.

For this update, BMW has added a QlockTwo widget to the Curved Display. This intriguing clock displays the time in writing every five minutes using a word matrix and using illuminated dots in each corner of the matrix to indicate additional minutes.

The OTA will add QlockTwo to the iX and be available in a total of 16 languages, automatically adopting the language from the settings already used in the infotainment system. BMW Operating System 8 also makes it easy for owners to add widgets to the main menu.

A number of other remote software upgrades have been announced by BMW. For example, the Lane Keeping Assistant system now recognizes that the driver wants to merge back in after overtaking and no longer corrects the steering. This system can also adjust the speed at which it changes lane. For example, the slower the vehicle leaves the lane, the more gently the car will steer back.

Additionally, the BMW i4 can be equipped with the BMW IconicSounds Electric system through an over-the-air upgrade. BMW has also announced an update for the 8-Series that will illuminate the kidney grille.

BMW’s Remote Software Upgrade system is currently available for more than 30 of its models, including virtually all models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 and 8. As such, more than 3.3 million BMW cars worldwide are upgrade-compatible.
