Volkswagen has produced a pair of Obi-Wan Kenobi-inspired ID. Buzz EVs to celebrate the release of Disney’s latest Star Wars TV show.
The ID. Buzz Light Side Edition and Dark Side Edition were unveiled in Anaheim, California, at the premiere of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that airs on Disney+ from May 27. They’re a collaboration between Volkswagen and Lucasfilm, the people behind the Star Wars franchise, with the Light Side drawing inspiration from goody-two-shoes Obi-Wan, and the Dark Side taking its lead from Darth Vader.
The Light Side is based on the passenger version of the ID. Buzz and features a pretty horrendous beige lower body treatment that’s said to be inspired by Obi-Wan’s tunic, but makes it look like the EV is wearing its mom’s Spanx. Fortunately, your eyes are mostly drawn to the blue line running from the headlights to the tail, the blue glass, and blue underbody lighting, which are all designed to draw a connection to the Jedi’s blue lightsaber.
Other Star Wars-themed details on this Millennium Falcon of EVs include Rebel Alliance logos on the side windows and the center caps of the custom 21-inch wheels, plus the model name picked out in the Star Wars Aurebesh font on the rear. But they’re not enough to stop us being pulled to the dark side.

Looking like some kind of demonic electric update of BA’s A-Team van, the Dark Side Edition Buzz is based on the ID. Buzz Cargo commercial vehicle, and is infinitely cooler than its force-for-good rival. Like the Light Side, the Dark Side has different upper and lower body treatments, but in this case they’re gloss black down below, and equally evil matte black up top. Providing a perfectly sinister contrast are the red windows, lights and body stripe, and this time, a set of Empire logos.
Unfortunately for Star Wars fans thinking about investing in an ID. Buzz this pair will remain the only such examples, so don’t expect to find Light and Dark Side trim options on the VW configurator any time soon. But we have a feeling one or two enterprising owners might be inspired to create their own. Which would you pick?
