The 2023 Toyota Supra is getting a long-awaited six-speed manual, but the company hasn’t forgotten about their other sports car.
Quite the opposite as Toyota has announced the 2023 GR86 will be getting an eye-catching special edition with an exclusive Solar Shift orange paint job.
The retina burning color immediately draws attention, but that isn’t the only upgrade as the coupe also comes equipped with a cat-back exhaust that makes its presence known. Besides a “deep, growling” noise, the exhaust features black chrome tips with a debossed GR logo.

Rounding out the exterior highlights are matte black 18-inch wheels with black lug nuts as well as Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. They’re joined by black C-pillar graphics and a black rear spoiler.
The interior largely carries over, but drivers will find a special edition badge with Solar Shift orange accents. While that isn’t much, the model is based on the GR86 Premium and this means we can expect a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment system.

They’re joined by a leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and perforated UltraSuede front seats with heating as well as leather bolsters. Buyers will also find a dual-zone automatic climate control system and an eight-speaker audio system.
Production will be limited to 860 units and each will feature a familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine developing 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque. It can be paired to six-speed automatic and manual transmissions, which send power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.
GR86 Cup To Compete In One-Make Racing Series
Besides introducing the special edition, Toyota released additional details about the GR Cup one-make racing series that will be sanctioned by SRO America.
Drivers will compete in the GR86 Cup, which features a front splitter, a ventilated hood, and a carbon fiber rear wing. The model has also been equipped with a roll cage, a custom Borla exhaust, and adjustable shocks. Other highlights include a Bosch engine management system, a SADEV six-speed sequential transmission, and Alcon brakes.
The series will kick off next year and there will be 14 “affordable” events at seven circuits across the United States. Track locations and GR86 Cup pricing will be announced this summer, but a total of $1 million (£790,040 / €927,730) in cash and prizes will be up for grabs.
