While Toyota has yet to fully detail the hotly-anticipated 2023 GR Corolla, the Japanese carmaker has already churned out a second special edition variant after the limited run Circuit model called the MORIZO, which is the nickname used by Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda when he’s sitting behind the steering wheel of race cars.
Joining the GR Corolla Core Grade and Circuit Edition, with production capped at just 200 units worldwide for the 2023 model year, the MORIZO Edition benefits from a number of performance upgrades that promise to make it even more potent.
Toyota says the GR Corolla MORIZO Edition was designed to meet the desired specifications of boss Akio Toyoda and created as the ultimate track-oriented version of the hot hatch. It will be available in Windchill Pearl and the Matte Gray pictured.

Toyota started with the 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The ‘standard’ GR Corolla delivers 300 hp and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque but some tweaks mean that torque figure has jumped to 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) for the MORIZO Edition.
Complementing the added torque are a series of weight-saving measures that mean the MORIZO Edition weighs almost 100 lbs (45 kg) less than the Circuit Edition. These savings were made by removing the rear seats, rear door speakers, rear window regulator, rear wiper blade and motor, and new 18-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Other lightweight components of the MORIZO Edition include a forged carbon fiber roof, an aluminum hood, and aluminum front door panels. New front brake ducts have also been fitted.
Closer Ratio Transmission And Tuned Suspension
Toyota has also gone to the effort of developing a closer ratio six-speed manual transmission for the GR Corolla MORIZO Edition that promises to improve acceleration. The Japanese car manufacturer has fitted it with red-painted monotube shock absorbers and unique suspension tuning “for a precision driving feel fit for racing.”

Some tweaks have been made to the cabin of the GR Corolla Morizo Edition. There are new black and red trim details around the door handles, steering wheel, and side air vents. It also sports Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather trim with red stitching. The car also has red mesh inserts in the seats as well as a sports steering wheel wrapped in suede.
Pricing details as well as the number of cars to be offered in each market will be announced later this year.
