Polestar is starting a new referral program to encourage customers to recommend its cars to other potential buyers. The scheme will reward both buyers and referrers with a number of prizes, including a unique sketch from one of Polestar’s designers.

“We are being thoughtful about this — we could easily take the popular NFT route and make bespoke digital artworks but will wait until there is a real, environmentally-friendly benefit to using NFTs,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO. “Given their questionable sustainability credentials and our desire to make each sketch something tangible that might be mounted in a special place, we intend to deliver real sketches instead.”

Other rewards being offered to existing customers who refer a customer to the brand are Houdini Power Houdis, like those worn by Polestar crew, charging credits, as well as Google Nest Hub and Nest Mini bundle.

Available to people in South Korea, the United States, and parts of Europe (Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom), the gifts are region-dependent. South Korean and European customers will be offered the charging credit, whereas the Google bundle is for Americans.

To sweeten the pot a little more, new customers will also get a reward under the new referral program. European and South Korean customers will be offered a local public charging credit with a value of €100 (132,778 South Korean Won/$107 USD at current exchange rates). American customers, meanwhile, will get the same Google nest bundle as existing customers.

The system will work by giving owners the ability to generate a unique referral code within their Polestar account. That can then be linked to a new customer’s account before they place the order. Upon purchasing their vehicle, the customers will receive their gifts.
