Stellantis unveiled its STLA platform lineup at an EV Day event in July of 2021, and we’re now getting a taste of where the vehicles that will ride upon it will be built.
The brand is making a huge investment in Canada to produce new vehicles as part of its Dare Forward 2030 strategy, which will see an investment of CA$3.6 billion (US$2.8 billion USD) made in the country. Dare Forward 2030 represents a CA$45 billion (US$35 billion) investment in electrification and software, on its way to a long-term electrification strategy through 2025.
“There has been a lot of speculation, and while we’re not prepared to discuss any product details today, we’re happy to confirm that Windsor will produce vehicles on our new STLA Large platform,” said Mark Stewart, Stellantis North America COO. “These announcements represent key pieces of our Dare Forward strategy to provide safe, clean and affordable mobility solutions for our customers long into the future.”

The Windsor plant will be transformed to produce a new Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in 2023. According to the brand, the facility will have the flexibility to adjust production volumes as needed to meet changing market demand for the next 10 years.
The Brampton plant currently produces the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, but all three of those vehicles are scheduled to end production in 2024 when the plant is retooled. A new product announcement for the plant will be made at a later date, but the carmaker has said in the past that it would produce “at least one EV”.
The STLA Large platform will debut in 2026 and will join the STLA Small, STLA Medium, and STLA Frame platforms in the lineup. The architecture itself will underpin vehicles in the size range of 4.70 – 5.40 m (185 – 212.6 inches) long and 1.90 – 2.03 m (74.8 – 79.9 inches) wide, which is about the size of a Cherokee or Wagoneer.
Stellantis says that 8 new vehicles will debut on the STLA Large platform by 2026, and the Windsor plant will play a big part in their production.
