Tesla is in the process of building a research and development unit in Greece focusing on electric motor technologies.
The electric automaker doesn’t currently have a presence in the country but is reportedly eager to tap into local talent. Additionally, the Greek government is said to be keen to link Tesla to the nation’s existing research infrastructure.
According to The Weekly Observer, investments still need to be made in the project. Nevertheless, the Greek deputy minister for Research and Innovation is said to be particularly interested in attracting foreign companies to the country, particularly those as forward-thinking as Tesla.
In a statement, Tesla said the research and development office will be located in Athens.
“Tesla is building a small research and development office in Athens, which will be comprised of a highly-qualified engineering team. This team will focus solely on limited research and development activities to accelerate electric motor technology development through close collaboration with our team in the US.”
Initially, this new research and development team will reportedly consist of just 10 engineers. It is possible that it could grow in the future.
