An exceptionally rare McLaren F1 GTR Longtail is currently for sale in the UK – and, remarkably, it is actually road legal.

This F1 GTR, chassis 27R, is one of just nine GTR Longtail production examples ever built. What’s more, it was also the first Longtail to ever win a race and competed throughout the 1997 FIA GT Championship and this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

All McLaren F1s are special, but the F1 GTR Longtail is particularly sought after. Adding to the desirability of this example is the fact that it was converted for road use by Lanzante, the same company responsible for making the P1 GTR a road-going monster.

Powering the racer is naturally-aspirated V12 engine built exclusively for the F1 by BMW. All up, the powertrain delivers 592 hp to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

The car also wears a bright Lark livery, similar in style to the matching F1 GTR and P1 GTR we snapped at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of years ago.

Tom Hartley Jnr, the dealer selling the car, notes that it will be sold with UK registration and all relevant EU taxes paid. Well, since the driver sits in the middle, it doesn’t really matter that it’s a UK car, does it? As for the price, as the old adage goes, if you have to ask, then you probably can’t afford it.
