McLaren revealed the Artura GT4 racecar prior to its dynamic debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new model replaces the V8-powered 570S GT4 with an ICE-only V6 powertrain that does without the hybrid system of the road-going Artura due to racing regulations.

Starting with the exterior, the GT4-spec Artura comes with a racing orange, gray, and blue livery, plus a new aero package. The latter includes a larger splitter, canards, vented bonnet, and an adjustable wing mounted at the back, all of which allow for greater downforce than the outgoing 570S GT4. Customers who plan on using the Artura GT4 for endurance racing can opt for additional lights.

Inside, we find an FIA-spec driver’s seat, an optional passenger seat, an adjustable pedal box, an optional drinks system, a steering wheel with illuminated buttons inspired by the 720S GT3, plus a Bosch DDU digital instrument cluster.

The Artura GT4 is based on McLaren’s Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) monocoque which contributes to making it more than 100 kg (220 pounds) lighter than its predecessor. More importantly, the new mid-mounted twin-turbo V6 replaces the V8 bringing benefits in terms of responsiveness, weight, size, and efficiency. The powertrain is 130 kg (287 pounds) lighter than in the road-going Artura thanks to the omission of the hybrid system. The space previously occupied by the battery is now used for the fuel cell and ancillary drive systems.

The Artura GT4 comes equipped with a Bosch Motorsport ECU for the twin-turbo V6 and a modular motorsport wiring harness. Power is transmitted to the rear axle through a bespoke seven-speed gearbox featuring shorter ratios than the 570S GT4, working together with a mechanical limited-slip differential. Note that this is a different gearbox compared to the regular Artura which uses an 8-speed dual-clutch without a reverse gear.

Suspension and brake cooling efficiency have also been improved over the outgoing racecar, while the wider Pirelli tires at the front allow for more grip and less tire degradation. Finally, servicing has been made easier thanks to the easily removable bonnet and rear bodywork. Driver aids include motorsport-specific ABS, adjustable Traction Control, optional Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, optional V-Box telemetry, and an optional Collision Avoidance System for your track-ready ADAS.

The Artura GT4 can be ordered through McLaren Motorsport Retailers. The racecar will continue its development program with the first units set to be delivered just in time for the 2023 season. The model will take part in the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb with McLaren factory driver Rob Bell behind the wheel.
