Back in May, electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar announced that it would miss its 65,000 unit production target by some 15,000 units this year. That might have made things seem bleak but new sales data proves that the brand is on track to meet that new goal. In fact, it’s already sold almost as many cars this year as it did over all of 2021.
Over the first six months of 2022, Polestar has sold 21,200 cars. That’s more than double the 9,510 units that it shifted over the same period last year or, in other words, a near-125 percent increase. Throughout all of 2021, Polestar sold 29,000 vehicles. Now it seems the brand will easily eclipse that.
“It is great to see that the number of enthusiastic Polestar 2 customers is growing so quickly,” said Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, in a statement. “I am very confident that the strong momentum we have seen this year in brand awareness and sales figures will accelerate powerfully in the coming years as more ground-breaking cars are revealed.”

Keep in mind too that Polestar has big plans to continue growth and brand recognition. For starters, it has an all-new EV called the 3 which will debut later this year and go into production next year. Heralded as an “aerodynamic performance electric SUV,” it’s meant to take on cars like the BMW iX and the Jaguar I-Pace.
“Polestar 3 will stand out amongst other SUV offerings and boost our growth trajectory. It also represents the expansion of our manufacturing footprint into the United States as we become even more global. It is an important next step towards our goal of selling 290,000 cars in 2025 – ten times more than we sold in 2021,” said Thomas Ingenlath.
After the Polestar 3, the Polestar 4, a smaller coupe-like crossover will debut either later in 2023 or in early 2024. The lineup will then again be enlarged with the Polestar 5, a flagship sedan with styling cues from the Precept concept.
