Bugatti has delivered the final Chiron Super Sport 300+, closing the chapter on the first production road car to top 300 mph (483 km/h). Only 30 examples of the 300+ were constructed at Bugatti’s Molsheim factory, each costing its owner around $3.6 million for the privilege of owning one.
The Super Sport 300+ roared into the record books in late 2019 when Bugatti’s official nut job, ex-McLaren Le Mans driver Andy Wallace, stormed to 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h) at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien proving ground.
To make that possible Bugatti’s engineers boosted the 8.0-liter W16 from 1480 hp (1,500 PS) to 1579 hp (1,600 PS), revised the gearing, and created new longtail bodywork that extended the Chiron by 9.8 inches (250 mm), reducing the aerodynamic stall by 40 percent. Without the benefits of those upgrades, the stock Chiron tops out at 261 mph (420 km/h), though only if you’ve first inserted the second “speed” key to remove the 236 mph (380 km/h) electronic limiter.
Less commonly discussed, and arguably not relevant, but equally interesting if you’re as geeky as us, is that the 300+ upgrades also made the fastest Chiron (and the subsequent non-300 Super Sport) significantly greener. Fuel consumption improved from 9.3 mpg (U.S.) on the regular Chiron to 11.0 mpg on the 300+, and the CO2 output fell from 572g/km to 487g/km. Which is still absolutely atrocious, but is probably more useful than the performance improvement in the real world because we doubt most of the owners will get anywhere near a triple-century speed run.

“In the long history of Bugatti, there are vehicles that come to define their era. The Type 35 transformed motor racing, the Type 41 Royale redefined opulence, the Type 57 SC set new standards for design, and now there is the Chiron Super Sport 300+, hitting speeds that were long thought to be impossible in a production car,” said Bugatti president Christophe Piochon as the 300+ story drew to a close.
“Its achievements have secured it legendary status in the Bugatti history books and we’re delighted to have seen all 30 examples of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ delivered to some of our most passionate customers.”
