Mercedes-Benz has opened the order books for the third generation Sprinter in the United Kingdom.

Pricing starts from £24,350, excluding tax, and Merc’s van can be ordered in three wheelbase lengths, four vehicle lengths, three roof heights, chassis crewcab, Tourer, and new Tractor Head for motorhomes.

Standard specification includes the Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, dusk-sensing headlights, keyless start, multi-function steering wheel with touch-control buttons and electrical power steering. It also gets the new 7-inch MBUX infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB Radio and USB-in.

Customers looking for a larger screen can order the optional 10.2-inch unit, but regardless of their selection, all of them have an (optional) integrated Navigation System, with Live Traffic and Mercedes PRO Headunit functions. There is also a Communication Module, with a built-in LTE SIM-card, for “rapid data transmission between vans, drivers, and vehicle managers”, according to the automaker.

Active cruise control, Traffic Sign Assist, Hold function, Parking Package with 360-degree camera system and sensors, Drive Away Assist, Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist drowsiness detection, Emergency Call system, Rear Cross Traffic and Exit alert are found on the options list too.

Powering the new generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are two diesels, a 2.1-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter six-cylinder. Rear-wheel drive models come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, whereas front-wheel drive versions get the 9-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Finally, Mercedes reminds users that the naming policy of the Sprinter has changed. As a result, the length won’t be known as ‘short’ or ‘extra-long’ anymore, but L1 to L4, whereas the height will follow from H1 to H3.

Production of the van will start in June, and shipping will commence shortly after.
