New Chevrolet Seeker Compact SUV Debuts In China, Could Come In The US Too

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off the new Seeker, an all-new compact SUV that will be produced by SAIC-GM in China. Following prototype sightings of the model in the US, there is a chance it could be offered in North America.

We first laid eyes on the Chevrolet Seeker last April, in the photo database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The official debut confirms what we saw, and the SUV adopts modern styling cues similar to other Chevrolet products, combined with a sleeker silhouette.

At the front, the Seeker gets a split headlight design treatment similar to the larger ICE-powered Blazer and the smaller Trailblazer, but the grille features a unique X-shaped chrome element, making up for the lack of the traditional hourglass shape. The profile is muscular with a familiar window line and plastic cladding around the wheel arches. At the back, the highlight is the heavily inclined rear windshield, with cube-shaped LED taillights extending towards the toned-up rear shoulders and integrating faux vents.

The model is depicted in RS trim, with five-spoke 18-inch wheels, a black roof, and RS badges on the grille and the tailgate. Chevrolet said it will offer the Seeker in two different RS variants for the Chinese market.

The Seeker measures 4,537 mm (178.6 inches) long, 1,823 mm (71.8 inches) wide, and 1,564 mm (61.6 inches) tall with a 2,700 mm (106.3 inches) wheelbase. This makes it 130 mm (5.1 inches) longer than the Trailblazer, but 115 mm (4.5 inches) shorter than the Equinox, and 337 mm (13.3 inches) shorter than the Blazer, effectively placing it in the heart of the compact SUV segment.

Under the bonnet lies a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder Ecotec petrol engine. Chevrolet didn’t reveal the specs but from earlier leaks, we expect it will produce 177 hp (132 kW / 180 PS). The engine is exclusively mated to a CVT gearbox, but we don’t know if it will be offered in FWD or AWD forms.

Inside, we find a pair of 10.25-inch screens for the digital cockpit, with the infotainment display being tilted towards the driver. The Seeker runs on the new Xiaoxue OS, supporting wireless CarPlay and over-the-air updates. The seats are electrically operated, ventilated, and heated, offering lumbar support. They are upholstered in perforated soft leather with red stitching, while the same material can be found on the instrument panel. Other details include red accents on the dashboard, a wireless charging pad, the Tune Dynamic sound system, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Chevrolet Seeker will soon be available to order in China, where prices are expected to be announced in the next few weeks. Besides North America which is rumored to get the SUV in the near future, the Seeker could also be offered in Korea and other markets.
