Color-Shifting McLaren Elva Could Sell For $2.75 Million At Auction

This could very well be the most outlandish McLaren Elva in existence and in mid-August, it will cross the auction block in Monterey thanks to Mecum.

When the British car manufacturer first unveiled the Elva, it indicated that it would produce 399 examples. However, it soon reduced that number to 249, citing demand from customers wanting more exclusivity for the very special speedster. It then cut production to just 149 examples and this particular unit is number 122.

Immediately making this Elva stand out from all others that we have seen is the Chamaleon-style paint which McLaren dubs Pacific Color Stream. The paint combines tones of blue, purple, pink, orange, and red, and shifts depending on the angle at which it is viewed. We’re not always a fan of outlandish paint schemes like this but think it works quite well in this case, really accentuating and highlighting the beautifully curved and flowing lines of the supercar.

When compared to the exterior of the car, the interior is quite simple and dominated by black ‘Ultrafabric’ and exposed carbon fiber surfaces.

Like all modern McLaren models, the Elva is underpinned by a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque and weighing in at less than 2,641 lbs (1,198 kg), it is McLaren’s lightest current production car, weighing less than even the Senna. Power comes courtesy of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that pumps out 804 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, all of which is sent through the rear wheels courtesy of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Curiously, the Mecum Auctions listing doesn’t provide any details about the car’s ownership history, nor how many miles are under its belt. Nevertheless, it does expect it to sell for between $2.6 million and $2.75 million, a significant premium over the car’s original $1.69 million MSRP.
