Popular MTV show Pimp My Ride is about to make a surprise return after 15 years. The new version of the show will take place in the UK, hosted by British rapper Lady Leshurr. The first episode of the six-part series is set to premiere on August 19 on MTV UK’s YouTube channel.
The original US-based Pimp My Ride series, broadcasted from 2004 to 2007, was hosted by American rapper Xzibit, with the majority of the seasons shot at West Coast Customs creating a stir among tuning enthusiasts. The new installment hopes to become as popular, with a new team comprising of British rapper Lady Leshurr and Surrey-based Wrench Studios.
Besides a sneak peek into the project cars and their owners, the trailer introduces us to the new host and gives us a good idea of the Wrench Studios shop which is filled with exotics. Interestingly the series retains the original theme song.

The new Pimp My Ride won’t be limited to restoring old cars by adding flashy bits and upgrading their sound systems with multiple screens, but it will also focus on “recycled green parts”, following the latest trend in the automotive industry. We hope that the UK series will be less sloppy than the US version, after the complaints of car owners that participated in previous seasons.
The two brothers running Wrench Studios are declared fans of the original Pimp My Ride and hope to continue its legacy. Talking about the new installment, Hamid Iqbal, CEO of Wrench Studios said: “we’re going to make sure it lives up to expectations”. The team will “pimp” used vehicles such as a classic 1966 VW Beetle and a 1992 Mitsubishi GTO inspired by Fast and Furious. The parts for the conversions will be sourced from eBay’s marketplace in the UK.
The goal of the producers is to encourage more people to join the DIY philosophy and, of course, promote the eBay marketplace. According to a recent study, 69 percent of people who bought car parts and accessories from the platform were planning to fit them themselves, representing a 32 percent increase compared to seven years ago. Until the new Pimp My Ride show premieres, here’s a nostalgic clip from the original.
