We were blown away by the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and now attention is turning to GMC as they’ve released new teaser images of the redesigned Canyon.
Set to debut on August 11th, the truck features a rectangular grille with U-shaped openings and X-like accents. It’s flanked by split lighting units that have slender LEDs up top and prominent headlights beneath.
Elsewhere, we can see a rugged front bumper, an auxiliary light bar, and a safari bar that echoes the one used on the Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss. We can also get a glimpse of red recovery hooks, a skid plate, and a bulging hood.

GMC isn’t saying much about the model, but noted this variant is the Canyon AT4X with the Edition 1 package. The company went on to say it has a “higher and wider stance, which is factory lifted for optimal ground clearance.” While that’s pretty vague, the Colorado ZR2 suggests the truck will have a 3 inch (76 mm) wider track, a 3 inch (76 mm) lift, and 33-inch tires.
While that remains to be seen, we can be virtually certain that the 2023 GMC Canyon will be offered exclusively in a crew cab configuration with a 5’ 2” bed. The model should also be powered exclusively by a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that is shared with the larger Sierra.
Three different outputs are expected, and the entry-level unit should develop 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) and 259 lb-ft (351 Nm) of torque. We can also expect a mid-level offering with 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque. Lastly, the AT4X, and possibly the Denali, could have a high-output engine producing 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 430 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque.
Full details will be released next week, but GMC noted the Canyon AT4X with the Edition 1 package will be available for reservation at launch.
