Toyota will preview the 2019 Supra with a concept at the Geneva Motor Show but that hasn’t stopped the company from testing the highly anticipated model.
In the latest videos from our spy shooters, we can see the Supra being put through its paces on a snow-covered course. This doesn’t go as planned as we can see the test driver lose control about 45 seconds into the first clip. The driver apparently decided this was pretty fun as they then made several attempts to drift around the track without much success.
The second video gives us a better look at the camouflaged prototype and it reveals the car will incorporate a number of styling cues from the FT-1 concept. The front of the model is dominated by large air intakes and slender LED headlights. Designers also installed a double bubble roof and a handful of vents which could be used to cool the high-performance braking system.
We will likely learn more about the Supra next week but reports have suggested the car will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that develops 335 hp (249 kW) and up to 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. This should enable the car to be relatively quick as rumors have indicated it could weigh less than 3,306 lbs (1,500 kg).
The Supra is being developed alongside the all-new BMW Z4 and it will reportedly measure 4,380 mm (172.4 inches) long, 1,855 mm (73 inches) wide and 1,290 mm (50.7 inches) tall.
