General Motors has issued a recall impacting almost 500,000 SUV models from the Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands.
The car manufacturer has discovered that certain vehicles have a rivet that retains the buckle to the mounting bracket in the left or right side third-row seatbelt buckle assembly which may not have been properly formed during the manufacturing process.
A recall notice issued with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that the third-row seatbelt assembly may not properly restrain occupants in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. GM says the issue may have been caused by operators at the supplier’s manufacturing plant not properly following manufacturing processes and inadvertently missing the rivet forming operation.

GM first became aware of a potential issue when on May 18, 2022, a GM District Service Manager reported that a customer’s third-row seatbelt buckle assembly in their 2021 Chevrolet Suburban had separated. Field data analysis from GM identified seven additional reports potentially related to the condition.
Involved in the recall are a total of 41,636 Cadillac Escalade models from the 2021 and 2022 model years, manufactured between March 16, 2020 and May 27, 2022. The recall also impacts 25,158 Cadillac Escalade ESV models built between June 24, 2020 and May 27, 2022, no less than 84,338 Chevrolet Suburban vehicles manufactured from January 6, 2020 to May 27, 2022, 176,981 Chevrolet Tahoe models built between November 11, 2019 and May 27, 2022, 97,436 GMC Yukon models built from November 12, 2019 to May 27, 2022, and a total of 58,606 GMC Yukon XL models built from January 6, 2020 to May 27, 2022.
GM will notify owners of impacted vehicles from September 26 and instruct dealers to inspect the rivet head formation and replace the seatbelt buckle assemblies if needed.
