The Radford Type 62-2 has touched down on U.S. shores for Monterey Car Week and has already lapped the famous WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in California.
Radford co-owner and 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button jumped behind the wheel of the car and completed a host of laps throughout the Hagerty Celebration of Motorsport event, giving Radford clients the opportunity to experience what the Type 62-2 is like from the passenger seat.

“From the iconic Goodwood hillclimb to the signature plunging Corkscrew corner at Laguna Seca, it’s truly outstanding to see how far we have come in the year since we launched the Type 62-2,” Button said. “Since Goodwood we have made further refinements to the suspension and brakes, and it was great to be back behind the wheel of the Type 62-2 in the USA.”
This particular Radford 62-2 was commissioned by a customer in a dark shade of Burgundy. It also benefits from the same upgrades to the Toyota 3.5-liter supercharged V6 as the flagship Type 62-2 John Player Special (JPS), meaning it is good for 608 hp. The customer also ordered it with Dymag carbon fiber wheels with lightweight magnesium centers and center locks.
Underpinning the Type 62-2 is a Lotus aluminum chassis with a new frame to improve rigidity. It sits on bespoke coil-over springs with four-way adjustable dampers while braking is provided by AP Racing four-piston calipers clamping down on either steel or optional carbon-ceramic discs.
Adding to the desirability of the car is the fact that the bodywork is made from carbon fiber, contributing to the very low overall weight of just 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs).
“It has been just over a year since we revealed the Radford P62-2 here in Monterey, and what a year it has been,” added Radford co-owner Roger Behle. “The car has undergone significant engineering refinements since then, resulting in a spectacular debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. It is great to have the Type 62-2 back in California and back at Monterey Car Week. Not only did we get to take the car onto the track at Laguna Seca track this year, but several of our clients were also able to experience the thrill of a ride in the Type 62-2 at Laguna Seca riding shotgun next to Jenson.”
