While Alpina may not have quite the same brand recognition as the BMW M division, the tuner produces some of the finest BMW models on the market. Among them is the 2022 Alpina B8, a car that’s just as suited to ferrying around occupants through busy cities as it is storming down the German Autobahn at frightening speeds.
In developing its ultimate version of the 8-Series Gran Coupe, Alpina took BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and made a host of changes to it, resulting in a cool 612 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. When coupled to an all-wheel drive system, the car can sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and won’t stop accelerating until it hits 201 mph (323 km/h).

The crew from AutoTopNL recently jumped behind the wheel of an Alpina B8 Gran Coupe to discover just how quick it is.
The luxurious four-door gains speed at an extremely impressive rate and pulls strongly through each and every gear. The reviewer was ultimately able to push it through to 203 mph (327 km/h) as displayed on the speedometer. Making that figure all the more remarkable is just how stable and compliant the B8 seems to be at these speeds.
Of course, Alpina did much more than upgrade the 8-Series’ engine in order to make the B8 Gran Coupe. Comprehensive work was also done to the car’s suspension system, including the fitment of new Eibach springs, stiffer suspension mounts, reinforced front sway bars, and stiffer lower wishbone mounts. The car also sits on a set of unique 21-inch wheels and to ensure it can decelerate just as well as it accelerates, Alpina has fitted upgraded Brembo four-piston calipers at all corners.
