Turning a key or pushing a button that brings to life an amazing engine is a special experience. While many sports cars offer special experiential facets of design, the way a sports car sounds is important in a unique way. When the vehicle sounds amazing it feels great. When it doesn’t sound so good it can be a real let down. With that in mind, we’re wondering which sports car sounds worse than any other on the market today.
The car in our lead image is possibly the winner right off of the bat. The Ford GT is unquestionably one of the most potent performance cars to ever come from the Blue Oval brand. At the same time, it’s powered by a turbocharged V6 that isn’t exactly audibly inspiring. Notable owners like Jay Leno have even swapped out the stock exhaust system for something more raspy.
The GT isn’t alone, though. Strangely enough, it seems turbocharged V6s tend to be a bit on the bland side regardless of the brand. The Nissan GT-R falls into the same category. We know that many modified R35s sound great but we’re talking about totally stock examples here.

Turbos might be a big theme on this list though because even when you hack off a couple of cylinders, the noise isn’t always great. I personally like the sound of the new Porsche 718 Boxster but lots of folks hate it. Where I think most of us can agree is the Toyota Supra 2.0-liter, which is about as mundane as it gets when under load.
It isn’t just engines with turbochargers though that suffer from this sort of disappointing tone. Both the new Toyota 86 and its sibling the Subaru BRZ coupe pipe fake exhaust noise into the cabin to make up for a somewhat dull natural note.
Is there something else that’s on sale that’s even worse? What is in your opinion the worst-sounding sports car right now?
