Over the years, we have seen plenty of uncommon vehicles converted into funeral cars, but the pictured Peugeot 208 hearse easily classifies in the top five. The one-off vehicle that is available in Argentina is one of the weirdest options to accompany you to your last residence.

The French supermini was chosen as a donor car for the conversion by Carrozados Rosano, based in the city of Córdoba in Argentina. Interestingly, this is not the first time the company converted a 208 into a hearse, as they had also done it with the previous generation model.

The front portion of the vehicle, including the bumper, headlights, grille, bonnet, front fenders, and front doors, is carried over from the regular Peugeot 208, and more specifically the entry-level trim as hinted by the blocked fangs and the halogen lighting uits. The same applies to the wheels, rear bumper, and taillights which remain virtually unchanged. However, the similarities end there, with everything else being bespoke.

The most obvious change is the significantly stretched wheelbase which required alterations in the model’s CMP architecture. This makes the 208 hearse longer than any other Peugeot, including the 408 crossover, the 508 sedan, and the 5008 SUV. The roof of the vehicle has been extended, allowing greater headroom and somewhat improving the proportions although the 15-inch wheel caps are not helping with the latter.

Predictably, the five-door hatchback has been converted into a three-door bodystyle, since no one would be using the rear doors, with the bespoke body panels on the profile following the lines of the original. The rear hatch is also custom-made, making up for the extra height.

Inside, the highlight is a textured stainless steel bed at the back, designed to accommodate any coffin. The LED lighting and the Napa-leather upholstery create a luxurious atmosphere.

The base-spec Peugeot 208 in Argentina is fitted with a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter three-cylinder Puretech petrol engine producing 82 hp (61 kW / 83 PS) and 118 Nm (87 lb-ft) of torque. This engine is widely used by Stellantis models in various levels of tune, but in this case, the lack of a turbo in combination with the heavier body of the Hearse will likely result in less-than-ideal specs. Still, performance is not a priority in this case, so there won’t be any complaints.

We don’t know the cost of the Peugeot 208 hearse, but we guess one of the reasons the company opted for the supermini is affordability, as most funeral-friendly conversions are based on larger, and oftentimes significantly more expensive, vehicles.
