The Jeep Grand Wagoneer has returned as a luxurious Cadillac Escalade competitor and while it’s interior is seriously impressive, the exterior design doesn’t hold a candle to its predecessor.
That brings us to news that a startup known as The Ghost Garage has announced plans to create an electromod based on the SJ-Series Grand Wagoneer.
The company didn’t say much about the EV, but they’ll be using donor vehicles from the 1989 to 1991 model years. Each will undergo an extensive restoration and “updating program.” The SUVs will also be equipped with an electric powertrain that is claimed to produce a combined output of 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS). Buyers can also expect a range in excess of 250 miles (402 km).

Additional details are limited, but the company said the model will be equipped with an “all-new interior” that features new seats. We can also expect new safety features as well as an “extensive bespoke options list.”
The Grand Wagoneer was chosen for its “iconic appeal” and Ghost Garage co-founder Tim Smith said, “A new generation of buyers are entering the classic vehicle market and looking for a blend of tradition and technology.” He added the company was “conceived to break through the hobby-shop approach to restomods by offering the levels of quality and efficiency associated with luxury automotive brands.”
The latter remains to be seen, but pricing starts at $290,000 and the company is currently accepting orders. If everything goes according to plan, the first deliveries are slated to begin next summer.
