Alpine released the first teasers of the upcoming A110 R, a track-focused derivative of the sports car that will debut on October 4, hinting at its redesigned body kit and its more aggressive chassis setup. The Alpine A110 is in its twilight years before the French brand goes all-electric, but before that happens, we’ll be getting a new and exciting version of the small mid-engined sports car.

According to Alpine, the A110 R was designed “for outright performance and breathtaking sensations on the track and on the road” and is described as an “extreme, lighter, and sharper” variant, inspired by motor racing.

Instead of the usual shadowy teasers, the company opted for a series of blueprints, showing parts of the upcoming model. Unlike previous special and limited editions of the A110 which were focused on the livery and the badging, the A110 R will boast a new body kit, visually differentiating from the regular model.

Among the new parts, we can see a prominent splitter, side sill extensions, a vented bonnet, a new engine cover, a large diffuser, a fixed swan-style rear wing, and new alloy wheels which are probably lighter than the stock units. Inside, the A110 R is blessed with a pair of racing bucket seats and a set of no-nonsense six-point harnesses.

Setting aside the aero and the weight-saving measures, the model will also gain some form of chassis upgrades. We know that because Alpine included a blueprint of the disc brakes and the suspension. Unfortunately, there is no sign of engine mods, which could mean that the mid-mounted turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder unit will still produce 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque as in the existing GT and S variants. Still, performance could be improved thanks to the potentially better power-to-weight ratio.

The “radical new version” of the A110 will be unveiled in Japan during the Suzuki F1 Grand Prix. Then, the model will make its European premiere at the 2022 Paris Motor Show on October 17.
