BMW’s M division could cap off its ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of the long-awaited 3.0 CSL in November.
BMW has been spied testing the 3.0 CSL on a handful of occasions in recent months and has even released a handful of teaser images of it. However, many details about the car remain under wraps and won’t be known until its unveiling which, if BMW Blog is to be believed, should happen in November, based on reports from unnamed insiders.

As its name implies, the new 3.0 CSL will take design inspiration from the iconic 3.0 CSL and will be one of BMW’s rarer modern-day vehicles. In fact, it is speculated that just 50 units will be produced. That number is nowhere near as shocking as the rumored price, however.
It is understood that prices for the 3.0 CSL will sit around the €750,000 ($716,000) mark. No, we didn’t add an extra zero to that figure, that could very well be how much the M4-based 3.0 CSL costs, meaning it will be worth roughly 10 times that of a standard M4.
BMW Blog suggests that the car will be handbuilt at BMW’s Munich plant and come adorned with a plethora of new body panels made from carbon fiber. The German automaker is also expected to remove the M4’s rear seats as part of the 3.0 CSL’s strict diet.
Power will come from BMW M’s familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder. Various upgrades will be made to this engine so it delivers as much as 560 hp. Unlike the current flagship M3 and M4 Competition xDrive models, the 3.0 CSL will send its power solely to the rear wheels and will also only be sold with a six-speed manual transmission.
