The long-rumored return of the Renault 4 is ready to be unveiled in the form of a fully electric crossover concept at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. A new set of teasers show the adventurous stance and trick LEDs of the concept.
Gilles Vidal, Renault’s design chief, had spoken about the R4 and R5 describing them as modern twists to iconic models which are differentiated from the rest of Renault’s range in terms of design language. Indeed, the face of the concept car has a retro flavor, similar to the original R4 which sold more than eight million copies between 1961 and 1992.

The concept adopts an SUV silhouette with a generous ground clearance and large diameter wheels that appear to be semi-exposed thanks to the cutout fender extensions. From the profile, it appears to be similar in size to the Dacia Duster, featuring boxy wheelarches and LED strips on the rear side window, roof rack, and side sill protector.
Besides the LED headlights which are enclosed within the covered and illuminated grille alongside Renault’s new emblem, we get to see the LED taillights, featuring three vertically arranged elements – again, similar to the original R4. The extra kit mounted on the roof and on the rear windscreen makes it look like an expedition vehicle, which sounds like a great theme for a concept.

This is not the first time we see a teaser of the Renault 4 EV homage, since the French company revealed its grille and silhouette last year. Interestingly, the new teasers depict a different and more extreme-looking SUV, making us believe that the show car will be toned down for production. Speaking of which, the R4 – or 4ever as it is rumored to be called – is expected to be offered in crossover and light commercial vehicle bodystyles, slotting above the R5 supermini and below the Megane E-Tech crossover in Renault’s EV range.
The concept comes 30 years after the end of production of the original Renault 4, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the 4L Trophy humanitarian rally. It is set to premiere on October 17, although we wouldn’t be surprised if Renault continues the teaser campaign with more revealing shots.
