VW Australia unveiled a special edition of the Multivan T6.1 that is simply called “Edition”. The model will be produced in 250 units exclusively for the Australian market, bringing extra interior and exterior features over the lesser trims.
Let’s start by clarifying that the Multivan Edition for Down Under shouldn’t be confused with the Multivan Edition for Europe despite sharing the same name. The Australian model is the flagship passenger trim of the Transporter T6.1 that debuted in 2019, unlike the Euro MQB-based T7 which followed in 2021.

Starting with the exterior, the Multivan T6.1 Edition is distinguished by the black finish on the roof B-pillars and mirror caps, the 17-inch Aracaju alloy wheels, and the “Edition” stickers on the profile and tailgate. The only option is the color, with all other features like the full-LED lighting and the chrome-infused grille included in the standard equipment. More specifically, Australian buyers can choose between Candy White, Pure Grey, Cherry Red, Ravenna Blue Metallic, Mojave Beige Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, or Indium Grey Metallic shades.
Inside we find swiveling seats at the front, a multifunction adjustable table, an integrated booster seat, and a captain’s chair at the back, plus a wood-style floor. The 8-inch Discover Media Navigation and the Digital Cockpit are included in the standard equipment, alongside two USB-C ports, a rear-view camera, heated front seats, LED ambient lighting, and privacy class. A special touch is the “Edition” light on the side steps.
Under the bonnet lies the familiar 2.0 TDI diesel engine producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front axle through a seven-speed DSG gearbox. Not that the Australian T6.1 range also has the option of the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system although it is not clear if this will be offered in the special edition. In any case, VW equipped the van with an array of ADAS including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring with rear traffic alert.
Pricing for the VW Multivan Edition starts from $76,990 AUD ($48,361 USD) before on-road costs, with the metallic shades adding another $1,780 AUD ($1,118 USD). This means that the special edition costs $7,500 AUD ($4,711 USD) more than the Multivan Comfortline Premium with the same engine/gearbox combination, bringing an array of additional equipment. The first deliveries of the van are expected in the fourth quarter of 2022.
