A lot of cars get compared to the batmobile. Pretty much anything that looks cool and is painted black. Matte black especially. So we’re not going to draw that comparison, but Formula E will.
In revealing its new Gen2 car, the racing series referred to its “batmobile-like bodywork.” And we’re not inclined to disagree, but DS Automobiles (the premium offshoot from Citroën) has taken it a step even further.
The French automaker is the latest to have revealed its take on the next-generation electric racer, and it’s decked out in matte black and gold. Less like some Mansory monstrosity, and more like… well, the Batmobile. With some of Bruce Wayne’s gold thrown in.
Of course, the paintjob isn’t the only thing the PSA brand has imbued on the Spark chassis. The engineers in the DS Performance division have drawn on their three years of experience in the series to develop the new DS E-Motor 19 powertrain, the transmission and cooling system to go with it, their accompanying electronics, and the rear suspension setup.
“Formula E is set to undergo a revolution next season,” says DS Performance director Xavier Mestelan Pinon. “The progress achieved recently by all the constructors involved in Formula E has spurred us to surpass ourselves and be even more resourceful.”
Those lessons, says the manufacturer, have in turn trickled down to its production models, like the new DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 – one of several electrified models it’s working on.
That’s all well and fine, but we’re still focused on the way the French marque’s livery looks. If you’re in the neighborhood, you can check it out at the Geneva Motor Show, after which it will be displayed at DS World in Paris. Or you could, you know, just check out the images and video below for a closer look.
