Update 11/14/2022: After confirming that the mysterious world premiere for November 16 on the eve of the 2022 LA Auto Show is indeed the next generation 2023 Prius, Toyota continues to drop new teasers, this time showing the rear end with the full width taillight bar.

The hybrid hatchback is heading for one of the biggest redesigns of recent years with the teasers giving us glimpses of the sharper styling including the aggressive headlights looking somewhat similar to the recently revealed Crown models. The sharp lines of the LED headlight graphics and the dynamic lines on the bonnet point towards the Toyota emblem on the nose.

The profile is sleeker than the previous generations of the Prius, retaining its focus on aerodynamics and the signature five-door fastback bodystyle. Another detail we get to see clearer than before is the pronounced rear shoulders and a portion of the tail. The new Prius gets the full-width taillight treatment and a much cleaner-looking rear end. Above the LEDs, we can see a black area which could be a reference to the double rear windscreen of its predecessors. Underneath there is a chrome decorative element and large Prius lettering.

It has been confirmed that the fifth generation of the Toyota Prius will be a hybrid, with the company describing it as “Hybrid Reborn”. The model has always been a pioneer in terms of hybrid technology so we expect Toyota engineers to further improve the efficiency of the powertrain, while adding the latest advancements in terms of driving dynamics and safety tech.

Reports from Japan claim that the model will sit on a new E3 platform, utilizing components from both the tried-and-tested ICE-compatible TNGA-C and the EV-only architecture that is underpinning the bZ range. Besides the regular gasoline-electric hybrid that will most likely be offered from the start, there have been rumors about a hydrogen-electric hybrid coming in 2025. The latter could be the first production model to utilize Toyota’s hydrogen ICE engine although nothing has been confirmed by the automaker at this point.

We’ll know everything there is to know about the new Toyota Prius later this week. We wouldn’t be surprised if Toyota continues the teaser campaign through its social media channels, posting more revealing shots of the car in the next couple of days.
