The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is one of the hottest new cars of the year and eager to see just how much power it really has, one owner has already strapped his personal Z06 on the dyno.
As you probably already know, the new Corvette Z06 is fitted with a 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8 equipped with a flat-plane crank that absolutely loves to rev. Chevy claims that it churns out 670 hp and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of torque at the crank, making it the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 ever fitted to a production car. However, as YouTuber Speed Phenom recently discovered, it seems to have more power than the factory suggests.

After strapping the mid-engined supercar on the dyno, the results were immediately impressive with 596 hp recorded at the wheels while the Z06 was in fifth gear. However, the car wasn’t done and in a subsequent run, a cool 610 hp and 416 lb-ft (564 Nm) of torque was recorded.
Of course, dyno numbers like these aren’t the be-all and end-all and can vary depending on a host of conditions, including the climate and elevation at which they were recorded, as well as the dyno itself. Nevertheless, 610 hp and 416 lb-ft at the wheels are seriously big numbers and indicate that Chevrolet may have slightly understated just how much grunt the car has.
The 2023 Corvette Z06 is about much more than horsepower and torque. Indeed, Chevrolet’s engineers could have fitted a supercharger to the Stingray’s 6.2-liter V8 and extract even more power. Instead, they decided to create a last great swansong to the naturally-aspirated V8 and in the process, have created a car as good as European rivals that cost three times as much.
