In excess of 125,000 Nissan Rogue models have been recalled throughout the United States and Canada due to a water leak that could trigger a fire.
The Japanese car manufacturer has revealed that a potential water leak could lead to the corrosion of the dash side harness connector. This could trigger issues such as making the driver’s power window or power seat inoperative, trigger the AWD warning light, discharge the battery, and/or lead to thermal damage to the connector. Nissan says that in rare cases, this could lead to a fire.
Nissan first issued a recall over the matter on January 13, 2022 but at the time, it was limited to 2014-2016 Rogue models due to water and salt that could collect in the driver’s foot well. In late January, however, Nissan received a report from Transport Canada about corrosion detected in the dash side harness connector of a MY2017 Rogue. An investigation followed and Nissan confirmed four incidents of corrosion found on MY2017 Rogue – two in the U.S. and two in Canada. The decision was then made to also recall 2017 models.

All told, a total of 125,215 Nissan Rogue models manufactured between July 26, 2016 and September 27, 2017, are involved in the recall . No other Nissan or Infiniti models are affected.
Dealers were informed about the recall on November 29, while owners will be notified directly on or around January 20, 2023.
Customers will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer who will inspect the dash side harness connector for corrosion and replace the connector with a harness repair kit if necessary. Lithium grease will also be applied to all potentially affected connectors to prevent any moisture intrusion.
