Kia Australia is gearing up for the local launch of the flagship EV6 GT and will officially unveil the car at the Australian Open tennis tournament in January.
While the EV6 GT is already available in overseas markets, including the U.S. where we will soon be driving one, it has not yet arrived Down Under. It will benefit from a comprehensive local ride and handling tune and is Kia’s most powerful production car ever.
Driving the EV6 GT is a 77.4 kWh battery pack feeding grunt to a front motor with 160 kW (215 hp) and a rear motor with 270 kW (362 hp). This results in a combined 430 kW (576 hp) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque, giving it 80 per cent more power than the next most powerful EV6 variant, the AWD Dual Motor, with its 239 kW (320 hp) and 605 Nm (446 lb-ft).
It is not just the powertrain that will distinguish the EV6 GT from lesser variants. It will also come standard with green brake calipers, electronic controlled suspension, an e-limited slip differential, 21-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, Intelligent Front-lighting System (IFS) LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, and sequential indicators. Bigger brakes with 4-piston calipers front and rear working alongside 380 mm front and 360 mm rear discs are also standard equipment.

Kia notes that the innovative new headlights use the front camera to recognize oncoming and preceding vehicles and reduce the risk of dazzling other motorists by controlling individual LEDs within each headlight.
Found in the cabin of the EV6 GT will be a handful of new features, including a GT Mode Button on the steering wheel, artificial leather and suede bucket seats, and heated seats both front and rear.
“The GT will be a very exciting addition to the EV6 range and just like the Air and GT-Line models launched earlier this year, it is attracting a remarkable level of attention,” Kia Australia chief operating officer Damien Meredith said in a press release. “Here is a car that combines the power, performance and agility of a track worthy sports car, while also providing comfort, on road driveability and practicality for everyday use. A vehicle to be the brand halo of Kia and more.”
Full specifications and pricing details will be announced in January.
