For a while there, all you had to do to get a bunch of views on YouTube was get yourself a Tesla Model S Plaid and head out to the nearest quarter-mile-long stretch of straight road. A new drag race video, though, suggests that time is now over.
In a video boldly titled “The World’s Quickest Cars,” Hagerty’s Jason Cammisa sees what happens when you line a Model S Plaid up against a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport and a Lucid Air Sapphire.
Little can be said about the Chiron Pur Sport that hasn’t already been covered at length, but the Cole’s Notes are these: a massive 8.0-liter, W16 engines sends 1,479 hp (1,103 kW/1,500 PS) and 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque to all four wheels, which helps propel a high-tech, lightened, over-engineered body up to 200 mph faster than it takes a cop to cut your license up with scissors.

And while the Chiron is there representing the best that internal combustion can do, Lucid has come up with a new interpretation of the best that its engineers can do. The new EV seeks to beat the Tesla with more power than ever.
An additional motor brings the car’s rating up to 1,200 hp (895 kW/1,217 PS). Although that’s objectively a lot, it’s only 89 hp (66 kW/90 PS) more than the Lucid Air Dream (which previously lost a drag race against the Model S Plaid) and it’s a lot less than the Bugatti’s big, thirsty engine makes.
Lucid has been clever, though, and thanks to the new motor being at the back, where the center of gravity shifts under hard acceleration, those figures don’t quite paint the full picture of the Sapphire’s advantage of the Dream.
Will it be enough, however, to take on the ludicrous Tesla Model S Plaid? Watch below and find out.
