The owner of one particular 2022 Mercedes-Benz S 500 in America has received an unfortunate Christmas gift in the form of a recall.
A recall issued by the car manufacturer reveals that the car’s dashboard surface bonding may not meet current production specifications. As such, Mercedes-Benz cannot guarantee that the adhesion of the dashboard surface will remain intact and if it is damaged, it could impact the deployment of the front passenger airbag in the event of a crash.
Mercedes-Benz says that segments of the airbag flap could detach from the dashboard into the vehicle interior, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

The automaker launched an investigation into the matter in the spring of 2022 after an irregularity in a standard quality check at a supplier that showed the insufficient bonding of the dashboard surface. An analysis of the problem quickly determined that it was caused by insufficient bonding force of the adhesive following an error at a sub-supplier.
The single Mercedes-Benz S 500 involved in the recall was built on March 7, 2022.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) notice reveals that dealers were made aware of the action on December 23, 2022 and that the owner will be informed before February 14, 2023. They will be instructed to take the vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer where the affected part of the dashboard will be replaced.
