Being crafty is a great skill, but even this power, it seems, can be wielded cruelly. Okay, maybe that’s a little strong, but one model maker decided to celebrate Christmas by creating a reminder of their friend’s car accident with a scale model and diorama of the incident.

In a post on Facebook, Chris Warren published photos of the assembly of a scale model version of a blue Subaru BRZ. Photos from the build, though, show how the standard kit was carefully reworked to include things like a broken grille, a cracked grille, and a crumpled hood, as well as scratches, dings, and even a deflated airbag.

All in all, it’s a pretty impressive little model, made all the more impressive by Warren’s own additions and creativity. On top of that, though, the car is placed on a small square of parking lot in front of a light standard (with some blue paint on it), just like in the real accident.

In the description of the photos, Warren adds that the driver who crashed their BRZ said they were distracted by a big bird. As a nod to that excuse, the diorama also has a big flying animal in it. I’ll admit to not being a zoologist, but I’m pretty sure that’s a pterodactyl, not just some bird. I dare say that I might have crashed, too, if I’d seen a dinosaur flying overhead.

Warren admits to taking some artistic license in the creation of this model, though. In addition to the particular species of distraction, the damage to the model is a bit worse than it was in the real car, which they attribute to this being their first attempt at working on damage detail. While that’s fair enough, I’d still say they did a pretty good job.

And while we might not all be thrilled about receiving a reminder of damaging our delightful sports car, Warren said in the comments under the original post that their friend was not upset by the diorama. We “had a good laugh about it,” they explained. May all of our friends be as good-humored.
