If you’re a firm believer in ‘there’s no replacement for displacement,’ you might want to check out this 2006 BMW M5 with 1,262 miles (2,031 km) on the odometer.

Set to be auctioned by Mecum next month, the model is virtually brand new and features a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 engine that produces 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 383 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque.  That’s a far cry from the 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) generated by today’s model, but it enables the M5 to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds.

That’s still respectable today, but the car comes equipped with a seven-speed sequential manual gearbox. This is to be expected, but the transmission has been derided by enthusiasts for not being as smooth as an automatic or as good as a proper manual.

With Only 1,262 Miles, This 2006 BMW M5 Is As New As It Gets

Putting the powertrain aside, the one-owner sedan features a spotless Black Sapphire Metallic exterior and a bright four-tailpipe exhaust system.  The car even rides on its original tires and this is a testament to how rarely it was driven.

The listing is light on specifics, but the M5 features a black leather interior that contrasts with brushed aluminum trim. They’re joined by a dual-zone climate control system, heated front seats, and an iDrive infotainment system.

There’s no word on why the car was rarely driven, but it comes with an owner’s manual, road atlas, a roadside assistance book, and a leather case.  The listing also notes the car was serviced last year, which saw it have an oil and filter change, a brake fluid and coolant flush, and recalls fixed.  The car was also equipped with a new battery at that time.
