Until recently, people looking for an all-electric premium crossover only had the Tesla Model X to aspire to, with pretty much every other choice featuring an internal combustion engine as part of a hybrid system.
Now there’s the Jaguar I-PACE, which also happens to be Jaguar’s first all-electric car, boasting a 90kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors per axle, producing a combined 400 PS (395 HP) and 696 Nm (513 lb-ft) of torque.
In a straight line, the I-PACE will even hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in as little as 4.5 seconds, which not too many years ago would have been worthy of a supercar – and while pure speed isn’t what this car is all about, Carwow was pleasantly surprised by its performance.
They didn’t get to sample the I-PACE as much as they would have wanted, but the reviewer did take it out on a handling course where he had a bit of fun with it while going around in circles.
There were also other positives, such as how there’s decent space in the back for adults, a generous boot and better materials than you get in the F-PACE, but since this was just a first impressions video, we didn’t get a lot of extra info.
Still, the I-PACE looks promising by all accounts and we definitely expect Tesla to take notice. The full-electric crossover segment will start to get pretty crowded over the next few years.
