Scoop: 2019 Audi R8 Facelift Looks More Determined Than Ever

With recent reports talking about Audi killing the R8 completely in 2020, this could be the last iteration of the German mid-engined supercar.

Audi is working on the mid-life update of the R8 and this test car is the first one to show up in front of our spies’ lens wearing what looks like final production bodywork under a thin camouflage wrap.

The differences are more than noticeable, as the test car features a wider front grille along with more pronounced air intakes and a totally redesigned rear end below the taillights. The rear end now gets bigger outlets and a set of massive circular exhaust tips, instead of the trapezoidal ones of the current model.

The new exhaust system also allowed Audi to fit a wider rear diffuser, which indicates that the facelifted model will get a more capable aero agenda than before.

Inside the new Audi R8 is expected to receive the latest bells and whistles of the German company, including the new version of the Digital Cockpit. Small design changes are also on the table, including a redesign for the steering wheel and new trim options.

Audi’s halo performance model will continue using the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10, which is expected to gain a few horses. However, there have been a few reports suggesting that Audi is also planning to introduce a new entry-level model powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, jointly developed with Porsche.

The facelifted version of the Audi R8 should probably debut late this year, with sales to start in early 2019.
