Last year, Mini unveiled a one-off Cooper SE Convertible as its very first EV droptop. Fast forward seven months and it has just launched the production variant, noting that it will produce 999 examples solely for the European market.

Customers will be able to order the Cooper SE Convertible in either Enigmatic Black or White Silver while all models will have Resolute Bronze accents around the door handles, front grille surround, side scuttles, and the headlight and taillight surrounds.

Elsewhere, the limited-run model comes with 1 of 999 lettering. It also sits on 17-inch cast alloy wheels with the automaker’s Electric Power Spoke 2-tone black and silver design. Mini notes that the wheels incorporate 100 per cent secondary aluminum.

Just like the standard hardtop Mini Cooper SE, the Convertible is powered by a small 32.6 kWh battery pack and a 184 hp electric motor. It can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 8.2 seconds and travel 201 km (125 miles) on the WLTP test cycle. The textile soft top can be opened, closed or set as a sliding roof at speeds of up to 30 km/h (18 mph).

As for the cabin of the new model, it comes standard with sports seats complete with heated functions and adjustable thigh support. Mini has then trimmed the steering wheel in supple Nappa leather and has also engineered a host of Piano Black surfaces and an ambient lighting system. A handful of bright yellow accents are also visible throughout. Like the hardtop, the Mini Cooper SE Convertible also has an eDrive feature that shows the driver important energy consumption, range, and other information through both the infotainment screen and the head-up display.

“Three years ago we launched the all-electric MINI Cooper SE, and today one in five MINI sold in Europe is an all-electric MINI,” head of the Mini Brand, Stefanie Wurst said in a statement. “This success has spurred us to implement the small series of the MINI Cooper SE Convertible within only a few months. I’m delighted that we can offer 999 MINI customers an extraordinary and exclusive open-air go-kart feeling.”

Mini has not yet announced pricing details for the Cooper SE Convertible.
