Next Nissan Z Model Might Get 475 HP Nismo Version

A few days after reports emerged asserting that Nissan will work with Mercedes-Benz to develop the next-generation Z sports car, claims have been published that the new Z will receive a potent Nismo version.

Citing unnamed “senior officials from Nissan,” Autocar claims that the next Z will share its rear-wheel drive platform, engine line-up and electric system with the future Infiniti Q60. The range-topping Nismo model will then use a modified version of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 found in various Infinitis but comprehensively upgraded to a hearty 475 hp and 451 lb-ft of torque.

Another important development for the new Nismo will be its inclusion of an all-wheel drive system to make the most of the grunt.

Beyond its powertrain, the future Nissan Z is tipped to be slightly larger than the 370Z and will be joined by a Roadster at a later date.

Reports out of Japan assert that Nissan is looking to partner with Mercedes-Benz to share the development and production costs of creating the new sports car. Considering the declining demand for such vehicles, doing so may be the brand’s only option if it wants to keep the Z badge alive.

Non-Nismo badged models will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in base guise and a version of the Infiniti Q60’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 400 hp.
