Ford is bringing the insane all-electric SuperVan 4 to this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and it will be piloted by none other than Romain Dumas, the Pikes Peak record holder.
This year will mark the 101st running of the famous event and Ford models have competed in every single Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event since its inception, including a Model Y that competed back in 1916 and set a time of 28 minutes and 3 seconds.
Ford lifted the veil on the SuperVan 4 in mid-2022 to celebrate the launch of the new e-Transit. The insane van made its premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where it was driven by Romain Dumas. It will be well-suited to Pikes Peak because the electric powertrain will not experience any power losses as the elevation increases, unlike a combustion engine.
Watch: New Ford SuperVan Shows What Is Possible With Electric Power
A total of four electric motors power the SuperVan 4, combining to deliver an extraordinary 1,973 hp. The EV can apparently hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 2 seconds and while it won’t challenge for the current Pikes Peak record, it should be capable of a very solid time. The current record of 7:57.148 was set by Dumas in 2018 while behind the wheel of the all-electric Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak.
“The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the perfect next stop for Ford Performance, and is the perfect place to take SuperVan 4, as both have long, storied histories that ignite the imagination of racing fans all over the world,” global director of Ford Performance Vehicles, Mark Rushbrook, said. “Both have evolved over time, and it’s time to take our electric vehicle technology and put it to the test on the mountain against some of the most impressive performance vehicles in the world.”
