Kia looks poised to unveil a production version of the EV9 that’s almost completely unchanged from the concept. With the clock ticking down for a debut later this month, the Korean brand has released a brief teaser video featuring the front lighting package and side profile of the electric SUV. There’s a blend of retro and forward-looking design features to pour over.
The EV9 is set to become Kia’s flagship on two fronts. Not only will it showcase the brand’s commitment to all-electric vehicles but it’ll serve as its largest and boldest SUV to date. It’ll sit atop a stretched-out version of the E-GMP platform with a recent leak suggesting prices could start from $56,000 for the 200 HP (149 kW) base model and top out at $73,000 for the 400 HP (298 kW) flagship edition.
In the newly unveiled teaser, we first get a clear look at the lighting at the front of the EV9. Just like we saw on the original concept, the SUV has L-shaped mostly-vertical daytime running lights bookending a number of smaller LED lights that point toward the middle of the grille. Kia quickly shows us that they’ll likely have more than one setting before switching to the rear of the car.

In the back corner, we get a glimpse of the taillight housing. Similarly to the front, it’ll be mostly made up of vertical lighting with one small horizontal bar on the rear tailgate. Flush door handles are shown off near the rear quarter panel with its hard boxy lines. In fact, boxy is a great way to describe what we see here as Kia flashes the whole side profile of the three-row EV.
Notably, and unsurprisingly, the hood-top-mounted venting sections from the concept look to be long gone. The rear roof section is no longer a long flat bar either. Put simply, it looks a lot like the undisguised EV9 someone spotted on the road the other day. Other than those small changes, this thing looks incredibly close to the concept. That in and of itself is bold. We just hope those tri-spoke wheels make it to the production line too.
