The Tesla Cybertruck is slowly dragging its feet into into production with recent footage of prototypes revealing revealing a closer-to-final form and features. However, a recent video showcases the electric pickup in a unique way – drag racing against the Tesla Semi (or at least, attempting to).
The internet loves a good drag race, but it turns out the recent Cybertruck vs. Semi video making the viral rounds isn’t quite what it seems. Despite early excitement, it appears the “race” was actually a simulation with both vehicles driving at a limited speed of 25 mph (40 km/h), resulting in a clear tie. This was pointed out by Twitter user and self-proclaimed Cybertruck enthusiast @greggertruck, who shared two videos of the same event on social media.

The road is inside a Tesla factory – presumably during the Investor Day event – which would explain the bunch of white Model S and X models following the Cybertruck and the Semi and the presence of a crowd. A drone can be seen flying above the vehicles, possibly filming the stunt for promotional purposes.
If the race was real, then the Cybertruck would most likely leave the Semi to dust. The quickest version of the pickup is set to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, while the slowest will complete the sprint in 6.5 seconds. The latter would have a hard time against the Semi that accelerates from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in an impressively low 5 seconds when unloaded which is the case here.
The two EVs from Tesla have been competing with each other in terms of delays from concept to production. The Semi was unveiled in 2017, but production only started in late 2022. The Cybertruck, on the other hand, was shown in 2019 and is planned to launch in mid-2023. In this regard, the pickup is slightly faster, although its series production won’t start before 2024, likely resulting in another tie.
